Intermediate: Content is broadly equivalent to learning at a level 5 to 6 on the SCQF.
Course Overview
This course will provide attendees with an overview of developing a risk-based audit process to assess and evaluate data protection compliance, starting with setting appropriate objectives through to evaluating the success of an audit programme.
It is ideal for those with responsibilities for planning and conducting data protection audits within their own organisations, including DPOs. While the course focusses on data protection, the tools and techniques covered can be transferred to other areas of information governance.
Please note that attendees will require a good understanding of data protection law and how it is applied in an organisational context to achieve the learning outcomes.
Course content
Background
Looking at the background and legal context to auditing. Candidates will learn how to define the auditing objectives and assess, measure and prioritise risks within the workplace.
Planning
Candidates will become familiar with the tools to plan and execute a data protection audit.
Development
Understand how to develop an ongoing data protection audit and critically assess the effectiveness of data protection controls in the workplace.
Evaluation
Learn to evaluate the overall success of an audit programme.
